Performing Arts
At King Solomon High School, the Performing Arts Department aims to ignite a passion for both music and drama in our students through an inspirational curriculum. We use universal learning to help all of our students, regardless of their background, understand how the performing arts can be used in their daily lives and the plethora of careers and leisure activities within the industry. We aim to create well rounded individuals who not only understand how the performing arts can be used to impact their lives but also the lives of others.
Our curriculum in KS3 explores the origins of music and drama, how it has been developed in different cultural contexts and finally delves into how music and drama are both created and used today and for the future. The dramatic and musical elements form the foundation of our exploration where students are encouraged to regularly recap, recall and build on prior knowledge. In KS4 and KS5 students specialise in either drama or music. Once choosing either subject, they can choose to perform, costume design, set design lighting design or sound design in drama or complete their musical studies using either an instrument, vocals or music technology in music. In KS4 and KS5 we follow the Eduqas GCSE curriculums and ensure that all students have a range of experiences to work with industry professionals and in both simulated and working environments.
Students who study Performing Arts at KSHS will be able to compose, perform, appraise, evaluate, analyse, design and showcase their musical and dramatic prowess in a range of different styles and genres. They will go on into the world with the ability to use what they have learnt with us to enhance and enrich both their personal lives and enhance their community.
